Looking for a nice hike just off Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park? Try the hike to Dark Hollow Falls, which cascades 70 feet over greenstone in a series of cascades.

The water that feeds the Dark Hollow Falls comes from the Hogcamp Branch of the Rose River. The hike to the falls is the easier part – downhill. As you continue down the Dark Hollow Falls trail, you reach the upper falls, followed by the less-impressive lower falls, which is where the trail meets up with the Rose River Loop trail. After you visit the falls, the return is uphill.

Hikers sometimes get a view of black bears and deer in the area.

Dark Hollow Falls hike is nearly 1.5 miles long and is near Big Meadows on Skyline Drive. The parking lot located at mile marker 50.7 on Skyline Drive.  Pets are not allowed on this trail.

Seeing is believing, so here’s an energetic video of the Dark Hollow Falls by DeeFootage on YouTube.
